K-Line comes from pretty humble beginnings, having first started in 2010 because a few riders kept getting requests from their friends to put together backcountry ski trips in the Himalayas. Since then, the company has grown in ways we could never have imagined. We have explored further into the Himalayas each year, now offering high-altitude glacial fly-fishing expeditions, trekking adventures and mountain biking tours in the region. In addition, our Himalayan winter trips have expanded to include everyone from beginners and families to experts. The heart of our business will always remain in the Indian Himalayas, although our vision for exploration has seen us venture into other exciting new destinations – such as Turkey, Japan and Argentina – to offer backcountry ski and snowboard trips for the intrepid rider. It remains our key priority to ensure that our clients have a safe and memorable experience. In each of our destinations, our teams are built from individuals who are highly trained and qualified individuals in their respective fields and countries. The Gulmarg team was chosen from 6 American Avalanche Association accredited ski guides, out of just 12 registered local ski guides. Our team in Japan is composed of Japan Mountain Guiding Association (JMGA) certified guides. In India, our commitment to safety has extended to include the Gulmarg resort, not just our clients. We created K-Rescue, Gulmarg’s first and only comprehensive 24-hour search & rescue service that extends beyond the in-bounds area of the resort. As consultants to the Government, we also advised on creating safety procedures such as imposing a mandatory safety equipment requirement on all riders who venture into the backcountry. From the start, we have been constant advocates of sustainable tourism. We continually train our local team – particularly less developed areas such as India – in safety practices and mountain rescue techniques for both winter and summer.
